I was not yet around during the 80's, but this is one of my favourite cars from the era : the Peugeot 309 GTi, introduced in 1986 (a 16-valve GTi 16 was launched in 1990). It's like a 205 GTi with a boot, so it's more practical, and it's much rarer and less of an obvious choice, so it's cooler. I want one, badly, even if the build quality's rumoured to be atrocious.

I like the 309 GTI better than the 205 GTI/CTI.

My friend!

Awesome choice!

I actually own a 309 SRi - the little brother of the GTi - It has the 1.6 engine from the first gen 205 GTi - much more eager to rev and it's a hoot!

Would love a set of those wheels

Here's my car on a recent roadtrip. It's done 116,000 km so not may miles at all.

I know, I know - I've got a set of big fat rally lights all ready for installation - don't worry!

Such a nippy little thing, I know it's wrong wheel drive - but it's by far the most neutral handling front driver I've ever steered.

It's not about what you drive, it's about not being a dick. I'll forward your request to the oppo frontpage so that the mods will see it. Nice car BTW.

Little known fun fact: For some weird reason the beancounters at Peugeot decreed that the 309 two-door had to get the 205's doors. So they should be interchangeable. This also explains the the 309's somewhat odd, yet loveable looks.

Come here erryday

No problem. If you have any questions, check the Owners Manual tag and if you can't find the answers there, ask away!

Interesting. I've got the opposite of you; I do have the wheels, don't have the car. I use the vintage GTi wheels for my winter tires.

You could argue they're too small for the car, and indeed they hardly fit due to the size of the brakes, but I don't dislike the anti-stance look to be honest.

Awesome 406 Coupe! - really nice colour too They look cool! I think that perhaps the photo angle is unflattering. They're such low cars you'll hardly see that wheel gap from above. What's it like to own?

Did the wheels come with the car?

Well, the stock wheels (which I use for my summer tires) from the 2.0 are 15" as well, although they're wider than the GTi wheels. The car is great to own, 0 problems so far other than a grumpy speedometer sensor (~30k km since I bought it). It's a true GT, albeit a someone underpowered one with the base 4 cylinder.

The wheels didn't come with the car. I just liked the 205/309 GTI wheels a lot and they fit my car without any modification, so I just bought a set for my winter tires. They're rough, but for €60 there's nothing to complain about.

Wow that's cheap for a set of those! I was looking at a set down here in NZ - $400!!

Cool about the car, always have a second look when I see one.

Are many of the parts interchangeable with the 406 sedan?
